Begin with one question: what could go wrong?

Explore the structure of risk

AURA brings the methods, data and results of a risk study into one workspace. It supports examining a hazard’s causes, possible failures, protective barriers and consequences from different perspectives, while keeping the connections between them traceable.

Seven methods, one connected study

HAZOP, FMEA, LOPA, FTA, ETA, PSA and BowTie bring different questions to one study. HAZOP examines deviations from design intent; FMEA, failure modes and effects; FTA, combinations of causes; and ETA, paths after an initiating event. LOPA focuses on protection layers, BowTie on threat–barrier–consequence relationships, and PSA on probabilistic risk modelling. Assessment, diagrams and calculation are used as each method requires.

Links between methods show which event definition, function, model condition or barrier record is reused. This makes it possible to trace which records need review when an assumption changes, and to carry findings with their sources into comparison, experiments, learning and reporting.

Follow a cooling-system example

In this illustrative case, either pump can provide cooling. Loss of the main pump creates a need for standby flow; if the standby pump also fails to start, cooling is unavailable. Each method examines this event chain, its possible effects and barriers through its own question. Findings enter the report with the records and assumptions behind them.

The result is a way to examine not only a conclusion, but also the data and assumptions behind its assessment.
